Triple Choc Hedgehog Slice (Grandma's recipe)

If I had to chose what my favourite slice had to be, I would straight away choose this one.

The texture and taste of Hedgehog slice is top-tier and it always gives you a hit of nostalgia, as well as some small country bakery vibes. This one has nearly an overload of chocolate- cocoa in the biscuit layers, as well as choc-chips, and melted chocolate spread over the whole thing. We like to sprinkle some slivered almonds on top for a hit of crunch, but you can also use sprinkles or coconut instead.

Recipe- makes 24 pieces

Ingredients

125g butter

200g condensed milk

70g desiccated coconut

2 tbs cocoa

250g plain sweet biscuits

85g chocolate chips

Topping-

150g milk chocolate

3 tbs slivered almonds (or as many as would like)

Line a 20cm square tin with baking paper.

Melt the butter, then leave to cool slightly. Crush biscuits (a food processor makes this easy), then transfer to a bowl. Add cocoa and coconut and stir to mix. Add butter, condensed milk and chocolate chips and mix well to incorporate.

Spread evenly in lined tin, and chill in the refrigerator while you melt the milk chocolate. Once chocolate is smooth, pour over chilled slice, and spread to the edges. Sprinkle over slivered almonds, then return to fridge for the chocolate to set.

Once chilled, cut into squares and serve.
